Video Installation | Exhibition 'Lucas Gassel Revisited'

Video installation based upon a painting by Dutch painter Lucas Gassel (1490 - 1568), in particular  'Escape to Egypt'. The installation elaborates on 'Maria' as a child bride in a war zone within the patriarchal system, linking it to current times. These are worked out through performances and interactions with the artists daughter, a 14 year old teenager and two contemporary Dutch painters from the region. During the exhibition a fund raiser will take place on behalf of worldwide projects by Plan International in order to stop child marriages and provide girls with education and means to exist. 

Early marriage is a violation of children’s human rights. Despite being prohibited by international law, it continues to rob millions of girls under 18 around the world of their childhood. Early marriage denies girls their right to make vital decisions about their sexual health and well-being.
